Have you ever heard of a Japanese dog named Hachiko? If you haven't, I'll tell you now:
A man who was a professor in a Japanese college brought home an akita puppy to keep him from feeling so lonely. The puppy grew into a fine dog, and also grew an intense bond with the professor. Every morning, the professor and his dog would walk to the train station, where the professor would take the train to the city to teach his class. The dog would then return home and reappear at the station at 4PM every day without fail to greet his master on return.
One afternoon, the professor did not return home at the normal time of 4PM. Hours past, and the locals who frequent the station and had grown accustomed to the daily ritual of the professor and his dog grew suspicious. It so happened that the professor had suffered a heart attack during his lesson that day -- and would never return home.
Hachiko, however, returned to his post the next day at 4PM, waiting for his master who had not returned on his train. Days passed, then weeks, and months, and still Hachiko continued his daily ritual. The locals revered the loyal dog as a hero, and would feed him and pat his head for luck. Months turned into years, and the dog began to suffer severe arthritis and pains from old age, but still the dog waited for his master. One fall morning, the locals found the dog, dead where he lay, still waiting for his master to return.
In honor of Hachiko's extreme loyalty, the townsfolk erected a statue in his honor.
I think that story is amazing....sweet Hachiko...I hope he's finally found his master.
Yes the actual speach is awesome, I was all sorts of teary eyed after reading it.

Dogs are amazing, Ive been lucky enough to work and travel along side them and I miss that intensly. But my life cannot be there at this point regretfully.
However I learned so much its wonderfull. I only wish some people would have respect for their fellow canines

I have to agree with you, that story was very touching, not to mention true. It made me think of my old dog, Falina. She was always there for me...
